This review is being done to participate in the Blog Shares mission to review
Laila's Weblog - A Journey Through LifeThe mission is for 1 Trillion B$.
I don't really know Laila as a person except for the fact that she has held the Numero Uno position on Blogshares for considerable time now. I don't know whether being outright honest and blunt would get me the pot or whether saying nice nice things about the blog would get me the prize. So I think I'll just stick to the former one and say what I really feel about the blog.
Design: Well! The very first thing a new visitor sees on a blog is its basic design and header. Header serves the purpose of catching viewer's attention. Header should be dicrete and well defined. But in this particular blog the header is none of the above. Although the description of the blog in the header is pretty apt but its a bit long. So the header needs to be worked on. Maybe a separate background image for the header will do the trick.
Rating : 5.5/10 Another thing which needs to be changed is the Scrolling Text. Although due the clean background the text is quite readable but nowday scrolling text is simply out of fashion.
Layout : The blog is neatly partitioned and well organized. Specially the 'Birthday Reminder' thing is really good and useful. But one problem with the layout that stands out is that all the personal links have been placed right at the bottom. Its as if Laila doesn't want other people to know more about her life, her kids and her family. The personal links should be placed either just below the header or just below your pic in the right column. C'mon Laila! Let people know more about you and your life. If a visitor knows more about the author of the blog then a bond is formed at a certain level and the person feels like visiting the blog more often.
Ratings 7/10Background Image : The background image is more about the personal taste of the author. Its upto the blog owner what kind of Aura he/she wants to give to the blog. The background image of
Laila's Weblog - A Journey Through Life is nice. It looks feminine and suits the blog. But if it can replaced by a bit more cheerful and colorful image, it will make a big difference to the looks of the blog. Its always nice to visit some colorful and happy looking blogs.
Ratings : 8.5/10Content : Content of the blog is one strong point. It covers variety of issues with some really good links. I liked the one reagarding Indonesia & Philippines being the top two most corrupt nations. Till now I used to feel that my country INDIA holds this top rank given the level of corruption out here. :-) Also the personal pages about Laila's life can be quite inspiring.
Ratings : 9/10The only reason I wanted to write this review was to get the 500 Billion B$. I had planned to just visit the blog, glance though it once and write a brief account of it. If I just went by the looks of the Blog there wasn't much abt it and it wasn't the kind of blog I wuould have really cared to read if it wasn't for the prize money.
But when I went through the blog and the personal links, I realized that there is more to this blog than meets the eye. It has the potential to serve as an inspiration to others who are going through rough patches in their lives. The way Laila came through the tough period of her life shows that your life is what you make out of it. Either you can be unhappy about what you have lost or you can be happy about what you have.
There is just one life. Live it! Be thankful about what you have! And try to make a difference in other people's life if u can.
